Bareboat holidays on Fraser Island
Fraser Island Escape Yacht Charters

Information about Bareboat yacht charter and 'skipper yourself' bare boat holidays on the Fraser Coast

How to get there:

Flights:
Fly to Fraser Coast airport - a 5 minute taxi ride from the marina. Both Jetstar and Virgin Blue have direct flights from Sydney with links from all other airports. Flights are often very cheap so it's well worth investigating.
Regional carrier Qantaslink has daily flights fro Brisbane with connections from all other centres.
Hervey Bay airport shuttle meets all flights and provides quick, cheap and friendly service for local transfers.

Driving:
Hervey Bay is situated on the Queensland coast east of the city of Maryborough.
Follow the Bruce Highway 2 hours north of Brisbane, turn into Maryborough and follow the many signs for 40 k's to Hervey Bay.
The Fraser Coasts Great Sandy Straits Marina is at the township of Urangan....the southernmost tip of Hervey Bay.
Call us if you feel you need more detailed directions but the roads are well sign posted.

Car Storage:
If it's a nice car, leave it with us (but make sure the tank is full!!!)
Seriously....talk to us about secure storage areas in Hervey Bay.

About Insurance

Please read the 'security bond' section on the charter rates page about your security bond.
We strongly recommend you also consider separate holiday or travel insurance as provided by most major insurers.

Fuel use:

The other cost to allow for in charter costs is fuel and gas
Our boats are full of fuel for the engines and the dinghy as well as gas for hot water, stove and BBQ. Use of these 'consumables' are governed by the number of hours that you run the main engines of your boat for.
Upon your return, we check the engine hours used and issue you with an invoice for the fuel used based on engine hours.
As a guide, allow about 2 engine hours per day charged at:-
$25.00 per hour for Motor Cruisers like Intrepid, Five Star & Moon Dancer:
$20.00 on Sailing cats like Morpheus, JezaBell, Velella Mahe and Magnetic Islander:
and $15.00 per hour for Boomerang, a monohull.

More about money:

Deposit:
We require a $500.00 deposit to confirm your booking.
The balance of your charter is required 60 days before departure.

Cancellation Fee:
A fee to 20% of the full charter cost is forfeited if a booking is cancelled to cover our lost charter income.
We will endeavour to re-book the vessel and, if successful, we will refund your cancellation fee less a $250.00 outlays fee.

Payment:
Payment can be made by Bank Deposit, Cheque, Cash or Visa/Mastercard.

Local accommodation:

If it is available, you are more then welcome to sleep on your boat the night before your charter begins or after it finishes (depending on when you arrive in town.) but Hervey Bay has a wide range of accommodation from budget to 5 star.
Fraser Coast Tourism is a good start for finding a bed!

Mobile phones and radios:

All of our vessels are equipped with either Satellite phones or Marine two-way radios for communication to our base.
Mobile phone reception is very dependent on where you are in the area. Do not rely on it.

Sailing experience:

You do not require any previous experience or license to charter one of our cruisers. If you can sail a dinghy or drive a runabout, we will help you through the rest, both before you ship out and during your holiday. We brief you completely before you set out and are on hand to help you with all aspects of skippering during your time with us. Navigation in area is visual (if you can see it, don't run over it!) Each vessel is fully supplied with area charts and we are on call for 24 hour radio contact with ship-to-shore Marine communication radios.
